RAISE YOUR WAY – DIY FUNDRAISING

Being a mother is the most nerve-wracking yet rewarding part of life that I have ever experienced. There are times of great joy and times of such sadness. The sadness comes from when I feel helpless. When my child is in pain and I am unable to take this pain away.

I’m telling you that helplessness is the worst. A feeling my family has had to deal with a lot.  With my children I’m able to create diversions, distractions and try to help bypass the time and keep their minds focused on other things, something I’ve found can actually be used to get some good out of it all.

My family has unfortunately fought many battles with cancer. Both of my grandmothers have suffered from breast cancer, one requiring a double mastectomy. My uncle has been fighting lymphoma for the last few years, he is now in the recovery stage. My grandfather had throat cancer from years of smoking, eventually passing.

The American Cancer Society (ACS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating cancer.  Due to my families unfortunate diagnosis, I support the ACS mission to save lives and fight for a world that is cancer free.

Today I am sharing a few creative ways to channel some of that helplessness, your time, and energy into inventive ways to raise money and help save lives from cancer. The Raise Your Way platform created by the ACS let’s you build your own fundraiser with the activities you love most. You can turn any everyday event into a way to raise money to support the work of the ACS.

1- Donate your day:  I recently did this for my birthday, I chose a charity and requested that in lieu of presents that friends and family donate to a charity of your choice. This year, you can choose to help benefit the work being done by ACS, through your own unique birthday fundraiser.

2- Bake Sale: This is especially for the little ones in the family aware of the on goings within the family or loved ones and want to help in some way. My little ones love being in the kitchen. Allowing my children to bake up their favorite treats and knowing that it is “helping grandma” would really make then excited and feel like they’re being helpful.

3- Backyard BBQ Fundraiser:  BYOB&D Bring your own drinks & donations. Creating a fun and outdoors activity would be a nice way of involving those friends and family that are local and wanting to assist in someway.  Having a themed BBQ, dinner party, have some fun, and accept donations.

This is such a great and fun way to raise funds. My daughter has been wanting to raise fund for a missionary trip and this idea cannot just come at a better time than this.

What a great idea to let the kids be part of fundraising. I think it’s so important to show them what it means to give your time and money to worthy causes like this.

I am so sorry to hear about your grandmothers diagnosis. A bake sale is a great way to get the children involved with your fundraiser. I hope you reach your goal. I am a chronic illness blogger so here are some more ways other people could raise money for ACS . Like you, cancer has devastated my family. Every year I run a marathon on a team for the American Cancer Society to raise money and awareness. It’s such a wonderful organization!

I think it is so important to instill these values in our kids. The more we can make it a natural part of life, the more likely they are to do it themselves.
