How My Toddler is Learning At Home

So many stay at home moms have that question they ask themselves of “am I doing enough”, I am guilty of being one of them! I am so unbelievably grateful to be able to stay at home with my little one. With that blessing also comes with the guilt of not knowing if I am doing enough at home, providing enough, teaching enough, socializing her with other kids enough.

I want to ensure that when my child does enter an educational setting that she is on matched playing field with her peers. That means, my job as mommy is to make sure that baby K knows all her ABC’s, 123’s, and all that falls in between.

One of our favorites is her flash cards, I have shared these before when I discussed my Laminator Love. Nothing fancy, just cards I have grabbed at the Dollar Store. They have all types, we have ones for numbers, colors, simple first words and shapes.

Being able to physically hold the letters and play with them also helps my child learn the letters and make words. We have two ways of “playing” with the alphabet.

I purchased these letters from Amazon- Mickey and Friends Wooden Alphabet Magnets. They were under $10 and it comes with both upper case and lower case letters.

My daughter has fun tossing the letters around and we make words with letters that we put together. Nothing fancy, simple words like dog, ball, etc. We also have fun with the letters by pulling out a cookie sheet and sitting on the couch. The letters easily stick to the cookie sheet and she thinks it is so cool that they are magnetic.

Our favorite way of playing with our alphabet has to be our fabric letters by Deedle & Bug. My super sweet and incredibly talented friend Michelle makes them.

Michelle is am a former high school teacher and future homeschooler to her two toddlers. She combined her love for creating with her passion for teaching to start Deedle and Bug. She uses fun fabrics, textures, and designs, to create manipulatives that can be used for both learning and play.

I cannot say enough amazing things about these letters. Besides that they are just so freakin’ cute, they are perfect for a little one to learn. We are Team #DeedleandBug in this house. We create words, spell out names and just have fun!
