Unlike everyone else, I spend my Monday’s doing my grocery shopping and meal prepping. My husband’s work schedule basically translates to his Monday’s being our Sunday’s. One place I love to shop at is Fresh Market. I chose this because I love buying fresh foods and vegetables and they offer a huge organic selection. My theory with what to buy from where is always based on the type of consumption. If it is something like fruits and vegetables then I prefer to purchase organic because we are not only consuming the flesh but also the skin. Fresh From Florida is an excellent resource for learning about local produce and to help determine what is in season.
They offer a lot of locally grown items to chose from. The benefits of buying locally grown produce is that often the produce has been picked within 24 hours of your purchase. The shorter the time between the farm and your cart, the less likely it is that nutrients will be lost from fresh food.
I love grabbing the in season items from my local store. The benefits of eating in-season produce is first and always- the price! Secondly, I love to try the variety all year long. I got really lucky, my kids love fruits and vegetables. I think this is because I love them, they see me eating them & they want to try them theirselves. Monkey See Monkey Do!
One thing I love to buy is blueberries. My kids eat them up, they will eat anything blueberry inspired. I am making a Blueberry Watermelon Feta Mint Salad that I will share with you really soon.
