Do you ever feel like anytime you go out with your family, you come back with an empty wallet? Restaurants, theatres, and bowling alleys don’t run cheap for a fun night of entertainment. The good news is, you don’t have to spend a lot of money in order to spend quality time as a family. Here are several inexpensive ideas for you to do with your family together.
Paint or Draw Together
Does your family love doing arts and crafts together? Have a painting or drawing contest with little awards included. After your done, hang them up on the refrigerator to remind everyone how fun spending time with family can be.
Paper Airplane Competition
Dad’s already got this one in the bag. Kids will love designing and coloring their airplanes, and then testing them out against their siblings. Have awards for the best design, artwork, and distance to insure more than one winner.
Scavenger Hunt
Create a list for everyone in your family to try and collect before everyone else. This race can get competitive, so be careful not to crash into one another.
Play Boardgames
Playing old-fashioned board games is about the most popular cheap way to spend time as a family. If you don’t have any, borrow some from neighbors or friends.
Go on a Hike
Taking your kids on a hike can be exciting, if they know how to be quiet. You’re sure to come across wildlife you just don’t see in your backyard. It also doesn’t get cheaper than this.
Have a Picnic
Having a picnic is fun because you’re eating outside, not in your normal dining room. You know what that means. You don’t have to worry about doing the dishes! Pick somewhere fun, and bring activities to do afterward.
Play a Sport
Is your family competitive with sports? Play a game of kickball, baseball, soccer, or whatever your sport may be. Kids love when their parents play with them.
Dollar Theatre
Do you have a dollar theatre in your area? You can get in and out for a ridiculously small amount while watching a great feature. Popcorn anyone?
Camping
Camping is a wonderful way to spend time with your family around the campfire. Roasting hotdogs, eating smores, singing songs, and watching the stars is a cheap family entertainment that your kids will never forget.
Geocaching
How about looking for hidden treasures? This is right up your children’s alley, I promise you. If you have a GPS, you’re in business.
Baking Cookies
Spending time with your family doesn’t get any sweeter than this. Bake a batch of grandma’s famous sugar cookies, or settle for some delicious monster cookies to add your children’s favorite chocolates to the recipe.
