The Baby Brezza Formula Pro, this handy dandy bad boy is what I refer to as the baby Keurig. I received this item as a baby shower gift from my registry in 2014. I can admit that although I have a love/hate relationship with this product I used this every single day! Check out my review of the formula pro.
According to the Baby Brezza website the description is as follows :
Say goodbye to the time and hassle of manually preparing baby’s bottles. Introducing Formula Pro, the revolutionary new way of preparing your baby’s formula bottles. The Formula Pro uses patented technology to measure, dispense and mix water and powdered formula to the perfect temperature and consistency. With the push of a button, you can prepare a bottle within seconds that has no air bubbles. The water and formula powder are stored right in the machine, so it’s always ready for you when your baby gets hungry. The machine works with all bottle sizes and all formula brands and types. You can also choose the amount of formula you want to make: 2, 4, 6, 8 or 10 ounces. The easiest way to prepare baby’s bottles is now right at your fingertips.
As soon as we brought baby girl home we ripped this out of the box and set it up based off the instructions. It was a little confusing at first regarding why there were so many different dispenser blades. The machine dispenses formula based not only on the formula manufacturer but the manufacturers specific blend (Example: you set the dispensing wheel not just for Similac but for Similac Soy).
Now something out of Baby Brezza’s control was the fact that my daughter had issues with formula. We began with breast milk however moved on to formula once my supply went from the Canals of Venice to a situation in the California drought. When we first started using formula we began with a basic Similac formula. After tummy issues and a few pediatrician visits we had to go through the process of elimination. We ended up using a soy formula. I am providing this needless information for the purpose of reminding you that when you change formulas you need to change the dispenser blades. Again this was not a fault of the machine but irritating none the less.
Once the formula type was determined and under control I then took the entire container of formula and dumped it into the formula powder container. NEVER AGAIN.
The mixing funnel that dispenses both the heated water and the formula is my area of concern. Due to the fact that the heated water creates steam and steam rises, it rises to the area that the formula dispenses from. This then creates a caked up blockage that if not cleaned immediately will then lower the supply of powder being dispensed. Thus creating watered down bottles. If it is not cleaned properly this is an ongoing issue. This results in wasted formula powder. Who wants to clean the machine daily? Not me. Daily cleaning was the only remedy to the this situation.
Opposed to what the product details state, you do still need to shake the bottle in order for the formula to be mixed properly. Which is fine, this is how I get my cardio in.
My resolution to this issue was to not add the formula to the dispenser. I kept the formula in the container it came in and kept it next to the Formula Pro.
The feature that allows you to quickly dispense the exact measurement of water at the perfect temperature is a godsend. You do not want to be dealing with a bottle warmer or a microwave at 3am, 5am or even noon to be honest. To be able to make a bottle with one hand is also quite convenient. Plus then once I added the formula I got my cardio in still. #winning
Overall, I wish I would’ve read more reviews on this prior to registering for it. Not because I wouldn’t want it, but so that I would have known about this formula issue. If a Formula Pro 2.0 isn’t released by the time I have another baby to feed I will be dusting this one off and adding it back to my counter.
