I absolutely love to cook and try new recipes. I am not a meat eater, red meat that is, so I often cook new things with different veggies and proteins. I decided to try out a new meal delivery system.
With a new baby on the way and a toddler in tow, I thought that this would be a nice “break” for me from the usual nightly routine.
HelloFresh is a meal delivery service that has a choice of 3 plans: classic, veggie and family. You can chose the size of the meals and the frequency. Each plan offers different options to fit your schedule and household size. Choose how many people you want to cook for (2 to 4 people) and how many nights a week you want to cook (2 to 5 meals per week).
I chose the Classic Box with these 3 meals:
1. Winner Winner Chicken Orzo Dinner
2. Argentinian-Style Cod
3. Skewer-Less Chicken Kebabs
My overall first impression was that everything was well organized, packed perfectly and labeled appropriately. The meals shipped in an insulated styrofoam cooler box, along with ice packs to keep food refrigerated (but not frozen).
The prep for me took me a little longer than the expected amount listed on the meal prep cards. I can’t dice and chop like Bobby Flay, so I take my precautions. When band aids enter a meal prep situation…it is no longer a good time. The meals were all delicious and I truly enjoyed each meal. The portion size for me was just fine, my husband however could’ve used an extra helping.
I loved the convenience of having the ingredients delivered and packaged together.
I am always looking for new recipes to try and this really helped me learn new ones and try new ingredients.
I was able to put my feet up for a night and allow my husband to cook a delicious meal.
One of my meals did not come with a recipe card, I had to look it up online. Which worked out but it was frustrating to have to keep reopening my phone to review the recipe details.
I could probably cook the same or similar meals myself for cheaper.
I really wish there were more options for meal selections, especially for someone like myself who does not eat red meat.
